Waterproofing & Tile adhesive

Spectrum Tiles advanced range of high quality and reliable waterproofing and tile adhesives have proven themselves over and over again in a vast number of projects and applications in Thailand.

Spectrum Tiles GENERAL WATERPROOFING COATING applies on protection surface from topside water exposure. It is impermeable, mould-resistant, waterproofing which mainly used on interior and exterior concrete and masonry finishes, factory, garage, tunnel, washing room, storage, kitchen, exterior balconies, all interior floors and walls prior to the installation of tiles and stones. K11 also can be used as the underlayer for flexible waterproofing coating so as to saving cost.

Spectrum Tiles HIGHLY FLEXIBLE TILED ADHESIVE is suitable for fixing large pieces of vitrified tiles on both interior and exterior walls and surfaces that have low water absorption. Is suitable for use over existing tile or pain surface without the need to remove.

The adhesive is crack resistant, has excellent elasticity and super adhesion.

SURFACE PREPARATION AND FIXING INSTRUCTION

  • SURFACE PREPARATION
  • All surfaces must be structurally sound, dry and clean from any loose or contaminating materials such as oil,
grease, wax, curing compounds, prior to application.
  • MIXING TECHNIQUE
  • Add correct amount of clean water or water and K01 mix to bucket. Slowly add required amount of
powder to match quantity of liquid. Stir the mixture using low speed electric mixer until an even
consistency has been achieved. Allow mix to stand 2-3 minutes and re-stir. Mixing ratio is 25kg powder to
7 litres of liquid or 3.4kg powder to 1litre liquid.
  • APPLICATION
  • Apply thickness depending on requirements, subject to material to be fixed, from approximate 3mm for
mosaic to 10/12mm for stone etc to the surface to have tiles fixed, using flat edge of notched trowel. Apply
adhesive to approximately 1sq/mt at a time. Use notched side of trowel to prepare adhesive for tile fixing.
If the tiles to be fixed have deep grooves or ridges it is recommended adhesive also be applied to back of
tile prior to fixing. Grooves of adhesive to run opposite to the grooves of adhesive on the wall or floor.
  • PRECAUTIONS
  • 1. Check and prepare surface prior to mixing and applying adhesive.
  • 2. Materials to be fixed must be applied prior to adhesive forming a skin. If skin has formed, remove
adhesive exposed and re-apply new adhesive.
  • 3. Make any adjustments of tiles before adhesive begins to set.
  • 4. Clean any excess adhesive from working area before it is allowed to fully harden.
  • 5. Do not use adhesive in temperatures below 50C and best not to apply in temperatures over 400C. When
using in hot temperatures, ensure surface to be tiled has been dampened and cooled. Recommended
temporary shade cover also be erected to shied area to be tiled from direct sunlight.
  • 6. Allow any fresh mortar to cure for 12 days before applying adhesive.
  • 7. Do not apply adhesive to wet surface, wet and rainy condition or to extremely hot and dry surface.
  • 8. To avoid wastage only mix quantity which can be used before thickening. Thickening time will be subject
    to temperature and weather conditions.
  • 9. Do not add water to thickened adhesive and re-mix.
  • 10. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not swallow. Use suitable protective wear when mixing such as
    gloves and face mask.

  • K11 CEMENTITIOUS CAPILLARY CRYSTALLINE WATERPROOFING COATING
  • K11 CRYSTALLINE WATERPROOFING COATING is inorganic dry-mix waterproofing material which is made from silicate cement, silica sand and other special active chemical material. When it is with water, the active chemical material permeate to the internal capillary of the cement and react with ionization, nonhydration element of cement so that come into be dendrite-like crystalline solid which is water insoluble. This crystalline solid combines with cement become one and protect construction from water and liquid. On non-water condition, the active chemical material is sleeping. But when light crack appears on cement surface or interior, the active chemical material can be hydrated and becomes new crystalline solid if it meets water. It repairs the crack automatically to make waterproof effect permanently.
  • Areas of Application
  • Basement, underground garage, potable water tank, swimming pool, storage, subway, tunnel, nuclear power station, port, ect.
  • Application

  • USE
  • - Use to waterproof all common building substrates that require protection from topside water exposure, such as kitchens, toilets, balcony, water tanks, base room, etc
  • - Use over interior and exterior concrete and masonry finishes, and over existing tile, dry wall, cementitious backer boards and plywood on all interior floors and walls prior to the installation of tile and stone.
  • - Also use for exterior balconies and other concrete and masonry surfaces.
  • SURFACE PREPARATION
  • - K11G- General Waterproofing Coating requires a solid substrate that is clean dry and free of oils, grease, wax, latex slurries, curing slurries dust and all foreign matter.
  • - The plane of wall surfaces must be plumb and true
  • - Floor surfaces must have minimal variation in the plane or slope.
  • APPLICATION
  • - Mix 25kg K11G powder (Component A)into 9 kg of K11G latex(Component B) gauged with 2L of clean water. It is recommended to use low cycled (350 r/min) electrical mixer in order to make the mortar homogeneous.
  • - The surface must be pre-wetted to saturation and be thoroughly damp, but have no free water on it. On applying the K11G – General Waterproofing Coating, the substrate should appear matt, and there should be no signs of glistening water on the surface.
  • - Waterproofing Slurry is applied in two layers. The second layer is applied 20 minutes after application of the first layer in the opposite direction (for example, the second layer should be applied in horizontal direction if the first layer is applied in vertical direction) while the first is still green. In no instance should the total thickness exceed 5mm.
  • - Before applying further coatings, e.g. renders, tile adhesives etc onto Waterproofing Coating, allow the Waterproofing Coating to fully cure.
  • - Ceramic tiling application may start minimum 24 hours after application of Waterproofing Coating.
  • PRECAUTIONS
  • - Product should be applied at ambient temperatures between +5° and +40°.
  • - K11G should not be exposed directly to water or sun within 24 hours after application.
  • - Wait for min.3 days to fill water tanks or potable water tanks after application, when it is tiled.
  • - Air bubbles which are formed during mixing process weaken water proofing. Therefore mixture should be prepared using a low cycled mixer.
  • - K11G is a water proofing material used under tile applications. It should not be applied to outer surfaces, and areas with high level of humidity.
  • - Attention should be given to wrapping it up in bundles to the internal surface especially during water tank and swimming pool applications. In case of incomplete wrapping which gives rise to interruptions, there may be water leakages at these points.
  • - A net should be used to prevent K11G from getting damaged at corner points during water tank, swimming pool, terrace, and balcony applications.
  • - Since base concrete and sidewalls are exposed to different loads during construction of water tanks, swimming pools, concrete pouring sequences of base and side walls should conform to the project.
  • - A very good insulation should be applied to such part of pipes placed in the mould for discharging water while side concrete are poured for water tanks and swimming pools.
  • COVERAGE
  • - K11G provides a thickness of about 1 -1.2mm. Thickness of dry film should be minimum 2 mm.
  • - Ground Moisture Approx 2kg/ m2
  • - Hydrostatic Pressure Approx 1kg/ m2 for each coat
  • - On the negative side Approx 4kg/m2
